This work depicts a small cosmos in which plants, insects, microorganisms, and spirits interact both above and below the forest floor. Above ground, a fortress-like wooden vessel celebrates the abundance of the forest, while sparks of emerging life rise from within it. Below ground, seeds, insects, and microorganisms become subtle presences, participating in an ongoing cycle of formation and renewal.
The grid represents both biological cells and a metaphor for human society. It suggests the structures through which living organisms are formed and interconnected, while at the same time reflecting the systems of logic and order that human beings attempt to impose upon the world. Yet when those lines begin to twist, shift, and lose their stability, another force emerges: the unpredictable generative energy that lies at the very center of life.

The Forest of Celebration Series — At the Boundary Between the Real and the Sacred

Across cultures and throughout history, forests have been regarded as places inhabited by invisible forces. In Japan, depending on the region, a Shinto ritual of harae, or ritual cleansing, may even be performed before a large tree is felled, as an expression of respect for the sacred presence believed to dwell within it.
The forest stands at the threshold between everyday life and the sacred. Everything within it participates in an unending cycle of emergence, decay, and regeneration, animated by countless spirits. Although a forest may appear still and silent, if we shift our scale of time, we begin to perceive an intense network of pulses, transformations, and interconnections. For me, the forest is a vast and generative microcosm, comparable in its complexity to the universe itself—a world of ceaseless formation, dissolution, and renewal.
