Dragonfly #3 — Hope

Acrylic on canvas

2025

53 × 53 cm 20.9 × 20.9 in

The setting is a lotus pond at night. A lotus flower that has not yet opened waits for the arrival of dawn. Its bud represents hidden potential—a possibility not yet revealed, yet already turning toward the light.
The thick, substantial lotus leaves represent more than physical beauty; they embody the strength that sustains life. The sight of countless leaves spreading and overlapping across a lotus pond can be magnificent, and I experience such a scene as one that gives courage.
The grid structures within the lotus leaves are depicted almost like cellular walls beginning to break apart. They suggest fractures within the structures of cities and society, while also reflecting unstable emotions and conflicts within the human mind.
Yet within this instability, the luminous dragonfly appears almost like a star. It represents expectation and hope for what lies ahead.
The dragonfly leaves the ordinary world, enters the sacred, undergoes a process of purification, and then returns once again to everyday life. In this cycle of departure, transformation, and return, I see the possibility of renewal.
